Joan Yakkey is Choir Conductor, Pianist, Composer, Director of the Vocal Ensemble 'Tempus Floridum' of Florence, Italy. This Ensemble is composed of  eight  female professional singers specialized in Medieval, Renaissance and Contemporary a  repertory. Contact us for Weddings, Receptions and Christmas Holiday occasions.
The recent CD recording of the Ensemble includes early music, Renaissance polyphony and contemporary a cappella and accompanied works. All singers have had their training as children at the School of Music of Fiesole, under the direction of Professor Joan Yakkey. All singers read music very well, and have experience in ensemble singing and score reading.
The Ensemble Tempus Floridum is now studying polyphonic pieces by Hassler, Palestrina and Dufay. They also have several new 18th century works in their new repertory by Bach and Mozart, some are original and others have been arranged by Joan Yakkey for SSA voices and piano.
Professor Joan Yakkey specializes in training young children for professional singing. She has developed several elementary coloring books for small children to learn to read and interpret musical notation, She directs the Polyphonic Children's Choir of the School of Music of Fiesole, the official children's choir invited by the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino to perform in those operas requiring young voices.  She also directs the Youth choir of the School of Fiesole and a children's Choral workshop, for children ages 5 - 12.
Professor Yakkey had started a new Children's Chorus at the Music Conservatory of Florence, Italy. It ran for 8 years but with tight finances and a new Conservatory structure, this chorus had to close. Fortunately some students were able to enter the Fiesole School choirs.
Professor Yakkey teaches piano to vocalists and instrumental students at the Conservatory, and  coordinates activities with visiting choirs in Tuscany, developing joint concerts and choral meetings.  She will be very busy in 2004 coordinating concerts and general activities with the music school of Kent State University, headed in this moment by prof. Mary Sue Hyatt.
