Andy Pettitte racked up an impressive total of 10 strikeouts as the Wichita

Bombers defeated the New Hampshire Vampires by the score of 3 to 1 at

Ameriquest Field.

Pettitte(1-0) put on a good performance. He surrendered only 5 hits and 2

walks in 9 innings. Wichita banged out 8 on the afternoon.

Pedro Martinez(0-1) took the loss. He gave up 6 hits and no walks in 6

innings. Pettitte was asked about his big strikeout performance, 'Well, it's

a little odd when you rack up these numbers on the road - instead of cheers

and a running tally in the stands, everything gets real still and quiet.

Just strange - but it's nice to be able to take the crowd out of the game.'

11,665 fans watched an exciting game at Ameriquest Field. The Wichita Bombers

topped the New Hampshire Vampires by the slimmest of margins, 3 to

Wichita jumped out to the early lead in the first inning plating an isolated

run using 2 hits. New Hampshire threatened in the 9th but their rally came

up short.

Rich Harden(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 and 1/3 innings and

allowing 2 runs. Harden was helped out by Roberto Hernandez who recorded his

1st save. Roy Oswalt(0-1) was hit with the loss.

Andy Pettitte pitched a complete game at Tropicana Field as the Wichita

Bombers beat the New Hampshire Vampires 2 to 1.

New Hampshire was unable to recover after Wichita went ahead in the 2nd inning

scoring a single run using 2 hits. New Hampshire had a chance to come back

in the 9th but they came up short.

The victory was credited to Pettitte(2-0) who went the distance, allowing 1

run. Pedro Martinez(0-2) was hit with the loss.
