Robb Quinlan went yard at Montreal as the Hogwarts Wizards lost a heartbreaker

to New England Storm by the score of 4 to 3.

New England scored the deciding run in the 9th inning. After two were out

Julian Tavarez doubled. Melvin Mora was next and he was walked

intentionally. Jeff Conine then delivered a base-hit resulting in an

exciting win for New England and a wild post-game celebration by the home

town fans. New England out-hit Hogwarts for the game, 11 hits to 4.

The victory was credited to Tavarez(1-0) who went 2/3 of an inning, allowing

no runs. Brad Lidge(0-1) took the loss in relief. He pitched 1 inning and

surrendered 2 hits and 1 walk.

Ben Sheets whiffed 10 batters as the New England Storm outscored the Hogwarts

Wizards 3 to 2.

Sheets(1-0) looked very much in control throughout the night. He surrendered

only 6 hits and 5 walks in 9 innings and surrendered 2 homeruns. New England

banged out 10 on the night.

The losing pitcher was Justin Duchscherer(0-1) in relief. Everyone seemed to

enjoy the performance of Sheets - except Hogwarts. Bryan Lewis lamented, 'He

just was 'on' tonight. He was keeping our guys off balance all game. A fine

game by a good strikeout pitcher - makes it a fun game for the hometown fans

- unfortunately we were the visitors!'

Right fielder Chone Figgins had 3 base hits and Jason Schmidt completed the

game without help from the bullpen at Shea Stadium where the New England

Storm beat the Hogwarts Wizards by the score of 3 to 1.

New England had the winning rally in the 8th inning scoring 2 runs utilizing 2

base hits. After an out was recorded, Figgins keyed the rally when he

stroked a one-base hit. Melvin Mora was next to the plate, but was promptly

struck out. Travis Hafner then bombed a two-run dinger (his 1st of the

season). New England finished with 9 hits in the victory.

Schmidt(1-0) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 1 run. Justin

Duchscherer(0-2) took the loss in relief. He surrendered 3 hits and no walks

At Shea Stadium the Hogwarts Wizards registered 4 runs in the 4th inning and

outscored the New England Storm 4 to 1.

Hogwarts did all of it's offensive work in the 4th inning scoring 4 runners on

3 hits. The highlight belonged to Aubrey Huff who made the crowd come alive

when he lofted a three-run 'big-fly' (his 2nd of the season). New England

had 8 hits in the game while Hogwarts had 4, but Hogwarts had the more timely

hits.

Mark Hendrickson(1-0) got the win allowing no runs in 5 innings. Brad Lidge

earned his 1st save. Randy Johnson(0-1) suffered the loss. By surrending 4

Ben Sheets dominated striking out 14 Hogwarts batters as the New England Storm

topped the Hogwarts Wizards by a score of 3 to 2 at Shea

Stadium.

Sheets(2-0) was in control of the game from the outset. He didn't give up

much, just 6 hits and 1 walk in 8 and 2/3 innings. New England won despite

being out-hit by Hogwarts 6 hits to 3.

Billy Wagner got the save, his 1st. Oliver Perez(0-1) ended up with the loss.

Sheets was pleased with his performance. He noted, 'I had good command of

all my pitches. Just as important, my location was right on.'
