At Fenway Park, the New Hampshire faithful were treated to an intriguing

pitcher's duel. Roy Oswalt(4-0) finally bested his Marysville counterpart,

Scott Kazmir(1-1), by the score of 1 to 0.

Oswalt looked very much in control throughout the night. He surrendered only

5 hits and 1 walk in 7 and 2/3 innings lowering his ERA to 2.43. Marysville

made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs

across.

Oswalt got help from B.J. Ryan who earned his 5th save. Kazmir was the losing

pitcher. Although losing the contest, he whiffed 10 batters in 7 innings.

David Wright cracked a homer and had 2 RBI at Fenway Park where the Marysville

Monarchs beat the New Hampshire Vampires by the score of 4 to 0.

Brandon Webb(3-1) contributed a very nicely pitched game. He was stingy on

the mound, allowing just 3 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings lowering his ERA

from 1.64 to 1.35. After the 2nd inning, neither team was able to score.

Webb got relief help from Jonathan Papelbon who gained credit for his 3rd

by the New Hampshire Vampires by the score of 4 to 2.

Scott Kazmir took a no-hitter into the 6th inning and Jose Reyes had 2 base

hits as the Marysville Monarchs defeated the New Hampshire Vampires 8 to 0 at

Kauffman Stadium.

Kazmir(2-1) was virtually untouchable. He surrendered only 2 hits and 2 walks

in 8 innings. Kazmir racked up 10 strikeouts lowering his ERA to 0.81. The

left-handed Kazmir had his no-hit bid broken up by Wily Mo Pena who doubled

with nobody out in the 6th inning. Marysville finished with 15 hits while

New Hampshire ended up with 3.

The losing pitcher was Dave Bush(1-2). He was not very effective,

surrendering 7 runs in 5 innings. Ray Alarcon was upset after the game. 'I

don't like to complain but did you see that umpires strike zone?', he said.

'Maybe they ought to start calling the strike zone the way it's printed in

the rule book.'

Brandon Webb reeled off a total of 10 strikeouts and David Wright cracked 3

homeruns and had 9 RBI as the Marysville Monarchs clobbered the outmatched

New Hampshire Vampires, 19 to 2.

Wright had a big evening at the plate. He popped a two-run clout over the

fence in the 1st inning, delivered a base-hit in the 2nd inning, smacked a

three-run homer in the 3rd inning, blasted a two-run home run (his 6th of the

season) in the 5th inning and doubled scoring two baserunners in the 8th

inning. Marysville bats were hot in the 1st inning which saw them plate 5

runs on 5 hits and the 3rd inning with 4 runs on 3 hits. The Marysville

offense was great, scoring in 7 of the 9 innings.

Webb(4-1) lasted until the end allowing 2 runs for the win. Matt Morris(1-4)

was hit with the loss. Webb was humble when questioned about his

performance, 'Well, I felt pretty confident in my pitches tonight. But, I

had great support behind me and I just threw what was called. That was an

extremely well called game!'
