Lashings

  A Lashing is a rope or cord by which two or more objects. eg spars are bounded tightly together.

5.1 Round Lashing
  � Used for joining 2 poles together.
  � Used in the construction of flagpoles.

Method:
  � Start with a clove hitch around the both spars.
  � Continue with nine or more turns, tightening the rope at every half-turn.
  � End the lashing with a clove hitch.










 
5.2 Shear Lashing
  � It is made near the tip of a pair of parallel poles, so that this pair can be opened out to form a pair of "scissors legs", known as shear legs.
 
 
Method:
  � Start with a clove hitch on one spar
  � Start the shear lashing for a short distant form the top of the spars
  � Make about 8 �10 turns round both the spars.
  � Tighten lashing with 3-4 frappings.
  � Finish with clove hitch on the other spar.
