I have never seen the movie, but have read the book. I have thought on this subject.

Because of the extreme circumstances, I believe they did the right thing. I have already told my family that if we were in a survival situation and I died, I hoped they would have the courage to eat me and live.

When I first read the book, I was a JW and decide I would rather die. I would instruct the others to eat me, though.

Today, I would probably try to live through it. I am very overweight (confession time here) and could survive 3-4 months without food under normal conditions. The soccer team was under extreme cold, so I probably would not last that long. You use an amazing amount of calories in that situation. I would probably opt for cannabilism [sic] sooner than I boast.

I don't believe it is the same as an organ transplant. They used the bodies as food.

I think it was noble of the Catholic Church to grant them a pardon; their consciences were hurting from what they had done. My conscience would not be hurt; it is a survival situation, and the dead bodies would do no good anyway. The only other choice is too die.

BTW, I just finished a book called (I think), "Survival in the Sea!" or something like that. It is a true story about six people who's boat sank in the ocean.

They were 37 days in a lifeboat before they were found. They NAVIGATED about 1000 miles using only a wristwatch and the stars. Their navigation was only out by 190 miles when they were rescued.

They ate turtles, fish, and shark. How they did this with almost no supplies is amazing. Some of the details are gross. The book is fascinating though.
