Reminds me of the cold war years where Soviet TV would tell their citizens how bad it was in the west. They would take pictures of large parking lots, and tell their people that Americans built a lot of cars, but no one could afford them or drove them. They lied about the west for decades.
About 6 months after I left the Big-O, I stepped into what I thought was a small church. I expected to see a few little old ladies and men, and maybe a few middle age couples.
What a shock I received to see a large congregation, families with people of all ages. The church was very happpy and they sang like there was no tomorrow. I never understood singing to be part of worship before that.
I have moved and don't attend there anymore, but my experience has been the same elsewhere. I have attended variations of Baptist, Assembly of God, Christian Reform, and a few others. Almost all the same: Filled to the max, lots of happiness, and very stable people. A much different picture than that painted by the Big-O.
