If they were correct, then God, who created all things would be able to push those nasty asteroids out of the way, refuel the sun, and repair our genetic codes to do what is necessary to live. And I suppose he would have to address any other items that would inhibit our living forever.
I believe that God intended for us to go to heaven and not live here forever on earth. But, I can't prove it unless I get to heaven. So, on the surface, the everyday physical evidence favors your comment.
