So you know that nobody knows.

While that is a philosophically grandiose statement, it might be better to investigate for yourself and see if you can find truth.

As for whether God created the universe and now exists in some undiscovered corner, I can't disprove that. But I can say that it is just as probable that the Invisible Pink Unicorn created the universe with the help of Zeus and Brahma last Thursday. That is hardly sound footing when there are so many simplier explations that don't involve anthromorphic all-powerful beings.

As for evolution alone, aside from the question of God, there is direct evidence of that. There is an incredible amount of genetic, anatomical, and fossil evidence for evolution. You could say that God made everything to look like they evolved. But you could also say that angels are pushing the planets in their orbits instead of gravity. No reasonable person can come to that conclusion.

If, on the other hand, you are contending that most people are not reasonable, I heartily agree.

It reminds me of a quote: 'Consider the intelligence of the average fundamentalist. And now consider that, by definition, fully half of them must be dumber than that.' (I know, the word should be median, not average, but it's still a great quote.)
