Noggin: A good book that I bought from Commentary Press years ago is called, Paul's Idea of Community, by Robert Banks. It describes first century congregations as house churches. A similar situation exists today and is a growing trend.
I look at the Christian community, not as having some kind of official 'organization' to guide it, but as a product of the holy spirit moving Christians to fellowship when and where they can. As we become aware that some are spiritually mature, we can seek thier help at times, and give very 'relative' obedience if it is based on God's Word.
Like some of the other posters, I too took a while to give up the thought that there has to be an 'organization' (Big-O). I now see the Christian congregation as the whole of believers earthwide regardless of thier affiliation with a group or not.
