I made that same journey of inquiry not long ago, Noggin. Although the conclusions I finally reached have satisfied me for the present, I am aware that they are, in fact, simply my conclusions and that I could be quite wrong. I leave a "back door" open for me to exit this train of thought at any time that it fails to satisfy me.
Each of us must decide for ourselves what makes the most sense to us, what has the right "feel of truth" to it. I would not force my opinion on you, but I would encourage you to continue to seek your own conclusions until you are comfortable with them.
