I saw J.H.'s response to Snowball regarding Behe's work challenging evolution. J.H. pointed out that Behe did not submit his work for peer review prior to disseminating it to the lay reader.
While I lean in favor of creation, I know the vital importance and value of peer review. Before I ever sent out a technical paper for publication, I had to have independant peer review completed in several stages. In one case, after going through extensive peer review prior to my submittal to the American Nuclear Society, they too engaged in yet another peer review prior to allowing me to be published or give a lecture.
I have also sat on independent design review boards where we evaluated proposed modifications for a nuclear plant. These reviews were vital in weeding out costly, needless, and most importantly dangerous modifications.
Regardlass of which side of the issue we are on, we need to check if the author of any serious scientific work has allowed his material to be reviewed and challenged. He must address the challenges and admit where he has insufficient data or weak rationale to support his claims. He needs to either remove those assertions, or openly discuss them as unverified speculation.
Thanks again J.H. You made a very important comment that deserves highlighting.
