Richard Dawkins addresses this example specifically in The Blind Watchmaker: Why the Evidence of Evolution Reveals a Universe Without Design. He also addresses many other examples. I'm most definitely not a science geek, but The Blind Watchmaker presents the most aesthetically satisfactory definition of evolution that I have ever read. I found it to be a very spiritual book. Snowball, I think you'll love it.
