The man who wrote this was unfortunately an idiot. His mother was certainly disappointed.
1) He makes the point that many great scientists feel that there is an entirely naturalistic explanation for the world. And that evolution is a major support for this. He is correct. This has no bearing on whether or not evolution is a fact.
2)
:An even more compelling reason
for keeping the lid on public discussion is that the official neo-Darwinian theory is having serious
trouble with the evidence
The writer of this article is having trouble with the evidence. That statement is an out and out falsehood. There is more evidence that evolution is a fact than that the Earth goes around the sun. Yes, important scientists have disagreements about the exact mechanisms of evolution, that's how science works. But physicists today disagree about the mechanisms of gravity. Try finding one who says that gravity is not a fact.
3)
:Here's just one example of how real science is replaced by flim-flam. The standard textbook
example of natural selection involves a species of finches in the Galapagos, whose beaks have been
measured over many years. In 1977 a drought killed most of the finches, and the survivors had
beaks slightly larger than before. The probable explanation was that larger-beaked birds had an
advantage in eating the last tough seeds that remained. A few years later there was a flood, and after
that the beak size went back to normal. Nothing new had appeared, and there was no directional
change of any kind. Nonetheless, that is the most impressive example of natural selection at work
that the Darwinists have been able to find after nearly a century and a half of searching.
Natural selection occurs over long periods of time. Mass-slaughters of populations rarely factor into natural selection. This was more likely an example of genetic bottlenecking.
Not only that, but evolution does not proceed in a straight line as this author suggests. Look at horse evolution, there are many directions it takes, often reversing itself. That the author feels evolution proceeds in one direction proves that he does not understand it, and is not qualified to write about it.
And finally, there were many examples of natural selection in this century. Here is one: Diseases with greater resistences to antibiotics. Like the new TB strains. The TB strains susceptible to the antibiotics die off, the resistent ones live.
That the author ignored even simple examples such as these is proof of idiocy.
4)
:If the Academy meant to teach scientific investigation, rather than to inculcate a belief system, it
would encourage students to think about why, if natural selection has been continuously active in
creating, the observed examples involve very limited back-and-forth variation that doesn't seem to
be going anywhere.
As shown before, this man has no idea what he is talking about. He is off in Fundamentalist never-never land with Jerry Falwell discussing why God created pink Teletubbies.
:Why is the fossil record overall so difficult to reconcile with the steady process of
gradual transformation predicted by the neo-Darwinian theory?
Still there. Say hi to Tinky-Winky
