How sad the story of this one man being told to leave is but this is a local error that even disregaurds the WTBTS official stance.
Not only are the disfellowshipped allowed to attend meetings, though quietly, - "A disfellowshipped anointed brother/sister is not to be interfered with if they partake of the emblems."
So if a former JW who was anointed can be there at such a gathering and still partake, there is absolutely no reason for excluding anyone from attendance at the memorial observance.
This is however also an example of how circumstances of one setting can be used to focus negative attention upon the whole WTBTS and all congregations associated therewith.
I can only state that such an elder would hear very strongly from me, at least, a severe rebuke!
