Newtonian physics is an excellent approximation for slow moving objects, (must…fight…urge… to…make…sarcastic…remark) but as objects gain speed, the solutions given become less and less accurate. As I remember, when objects approach .12 of the speed of light, the error becomes large enough to render F=MA a crude approximation. At higher speeds it becomes worthless.
As far as a reference, I would suggest that you start with "Mr. Tompkins in Paperback." It is much more fun to read than a modern physics textbook.
