"Don't you realize you just contridicted yourself?"
No, I did not contradict myself, I just failed to completely explain what I meant. It is true that the earth eventually will go to a lower energy state when the sun goes out, but we are not there yet. The effect of the sun radiating energy reduces the energy level of the sun, but the energy that is absorbed from the sun by the earth raises the energy level of the earth. That is why it is possible for systems on the earth to go to a higher level, even though the entire system is going to a lower level. The fact that a system is going to a lower energy state does not preclude parts of that system from temporarily going to a higher energy state.
