It is a matter of faith.
It seems to me that people have been praying to God for a very long time, well before Jesus walked
the earth. I would think that God was perfectly capable of hearing those prayers if he chose to.
On the other hand, I would find it difficult to
think that God could take any offense if we prayed
to him in the name of Jesus. As you know a number
of early Christians wrote about this and the practice is common even today.
