You asked about sending a letter to those in the congregation (explaining that I had resigned as an elder) before the announcement of my being deleted was made.
I didn't think of doing that. I'm sure the elders would not have appreciated me doing so. I suspect they would have viewed such a letter as an attempt on my part to 'cause divisions' etc. I think it would have triggered a Committee Meeting.
And again, at that time I still believed that the Society was God's organization" and so was going through feelings of guilt.
But after reading "Crisis of Concscience" 6 years later I was able to finally realize that the Society was not God's organizaiton and therefore was freed from all the feelings of guilt I had held inside for so long.
Then (in 1985) when I was told that I would be disfellowshipped because I had recommended "Crisis of Conscience" to someone, I did write a 10-page letter to many in the congrgation to let them know the *real* reasons why I was being disfellowshipped.
As far as I know, that letter didn't have any effect on anyone! But I felt better about the whole thing.
