Directed evolution, then, means that God is either too incompetent or uncaring enough to rule out diseases and infirmaties that destroy countless millions of human lives each and every year, not to mention the complete extinction of most species that ever existed.
You would propose that human suffering and extinction of species, as well as vicious and unmitigated predation by all kinds of creatures (eat or be eaten -- it's been that way for a long, long time), are a part of a personal creator-god's plans, whose communication with the one species that has survived with any remote intelligence has been quite hit-and-miss?
I know that evolution is a tough pill to swallow, but God hasn't yet come up with an adequate rebuttal. There are far more logistical problems with your scenario of divinely directed tinkering than the theory of natural selection, from even a simple common sense aspect.
A buddy of mine said that some JWs visited his house a couple of months ago. He just stepped out of the shower, and so asked them to come back some other time. He did however respond to the question posed in their presentation:
Q: Do you ever wonder how a god that allows suffering could exist?A: All the time!
