Here is my resignation letter dated October 17, 1978:
"Dear Brothers,
This is to inform you of my resignation as an elder.
Due to additional responsibilities with the family, and some personal matters of conscience, I do not feel that I can serve the congregation properly as an elder at this time.
My resignation is in no way intended to suggtest that I want to leave the congregation. I just do not feel that I can continue in the capacity of an elder."
Note: I had never discussed with anyone in the congregation just what the above "matters of conscience" were. If others were not bothered by what was bothering me, I didn't want to get them started. At that time I still believed that "the Society is God's organization."
