Noggin, the wts would have you believe that Russell and his followers looked to 1914 as the date for the return of Christ. Nothing further could be from the truth. Russell and his group never believed anything other that Jesus returning in 1874. That date wasn't changed until the 30's. The Watchtower, by their own admission have lied on this matter. Here are a few dates and references that I have collected over time.
1908 "In view of this strong Bible evidence concerning the Times of the Gentiles, we consider it an established truth that the final end of the kingdoms of this world, and the full establishment of the Kingdom of God, will be accomplished at the end of A. 1984 Some of that "generation (of 1914)" could survive until the end of the century. But there are many indications that "the end" is much closer than that! (The Watchtower, March 1, 1984 pp. 18-19)
