Thanks for your response, Antique. Yes, many of the elders pull this sort of nonsense on females. I found myself in regular combat over the really, chauvinist approach many of them would take. Just the illogic of it was intolerable to me. One old annointed elder I was on the body with asked a sister whose husband hit her, "What did you do to provoke it?" Being one of the committee, I interjected, "Yes, did you attack him with a knife or something?" She smiled, the annointed elder looked at me with a shock, and no more idiotic questions were asked. In another congregation, I heard of a elder who hit his wife, "Just to straighten her out". She left, of course. Him and the WTS. One case I intervened in another congregation, spoke with their elders and inquired what was being done to stop a brother, also her fleshly brother, from hitting his sister. They resisted and argued with me. Finally I just went to the guilty brother and threatened to beat the crap out of him. It stopped cold, and permanently, and nobody said anything to me about my threat. It was really strange. It's funny, when it became obvious that I was quitting here, the PO checked with me to make sure I wasn't mad at any of them. I also made it clear to them that I expected everyone to leave my children alone. That was the last I heard from them, which is just fine. It's the easiest way I know to deal with people who apparently despise reason and honesty and whose most important commodity is fear.
