Since the quotations cannot be argued (they really are wrong), after having it shown to the writer of the book and nothing happened, what do I think? I think they care more about continuity and loyalty than truth. In other words, they might regret having used such quotes (giving them the benefit of the doubt), but they feel it's too disruptive to do anything about it. They may feel that the book serves its purpose anyway, so why rock the boat? If a few evolutionists note the dishonest quoting, well, who cares what they think, they're just evolutionists anyway?
That's what I believe happened, having spoken to some myself about the matter, and seeing their reaction.
