I do understand what you are saying, and I agree that our preceptions can be different. In the case of the Creation book, I actually looked up the references myself. With some, you could argue that the writers ignorantly missed the point. With others, it's hard to see how they could possibly have misunderstood. When completing the quoted sentence would undermind the whole argument, it's hard to believe the writer never noticed the rest of the sentence.

Even if they were completely blind to this, when AF sent them detailed explanations of what was wrong, and later spoke with them on the phone and in person, any excuse of ignorance and/or incompetence is lost. Headquarters knows this book has dishonest quotations.
