I've grown weary of 'societies' - especilly ones that belive in themselves a lot: Amway, JW ... so sorry if this seems a bit off topic, but a US based 'Golden Key National Honour Society' is bugging my cult radar.
What is an 'Honour' Society? Gee, the word 'Society' has enough dirt on it for me, but 'Honour'? That's pure religion to me (maybe not God religion, but some idolitary or other). 'Golden' and 'Key' have bad vibes too.
I'd never heard of an 'Honour Society', but they wanted my name and subscription fee - lots of hype, but thankfully tempered by a bit of local Aussie iconoclastic-ness. They convinced me with some of the career gear they do.
Now I get all this e-mail and snail mail and it's got the gooey, gar-gar garbage of dub-dom stamped all over it.
I'm kinda hoping someone, who's got this far down :-), might have heard of the thing, and even have some perspective. Maybe I'm overly suspicious, or whatever.
They're telling me that it's a well known thing in the States, but all I get doing a seach is endless chapter web sites - that just tells me they talk a lot about themselves.
I'd really appreciate some cult-sensitive perspective.
Thanks
Max
