I can't say what the motives are. Maybe some in the art dept. see the deception and manipulation of writing dept. and have decided to join in.

It is interesting that you found some of the images disturbing. Subliminal or hidden images are designed to work on the sub-conscience not the conscience. There is controversy over whether it works or not but advertisers use them just in case they do.
