That is true. The thing is, that God saw fit to teach ancient Israel a lesson. Rather than having the courage God would back them and demanding equal treatment of the Egyptian leadership, or leaving, the Israelites let the Pharoah have is way with them. Look at the result, the time they spent enslaved?
The Bible foretells big changes for the earth, but all we have is our "inspired" interpretations. Many of these interpretations rely on "fill in the gaps" to seem whole, when in fact the truth might not be "nice." God is teaching us a lesson, not coddling us. Armageddon could very well be a fall of civilization and temporary return to the religious dark ages with the ultimate outcome of a world closer to God's original design of Eden.
God didn't teleport the Israelites to the promised land, but they went through sheer hell with lots of adrenalin-pumping thrills in-between (like walking through the Red Sea as it yielded to God's command to defy the laws of physics). The life that awaits survivors who likely will be from every religion could be even more thrilling and chilling, something that dwarfs even Spielberg's vivid imagination. ;-)
