Good question.
But as I understand it, a spirit is a spirit and flesh is flesh. When an angel materializes into the flesh he is no longer in spirit form but completely in the flesh. Angels can make themselves visible in a flashing light, etc. But if they materialize, I understand that they are in the flesh and NOT in spirit form.
So it is either one or the other, never both.
You might consider it of the concept that a spirit in a tight ball of dynamic energy and very small, say, a thousand angels could dance on the head of a pin might not be far off. But imagine this is very dense and a form of almost pure energy.
Scientists say, however, even in an atom, the distance from the nucleus to the outer electrons is the same amount of empty space say between the sun and the Earth or one of the outer planets.
Thinking in that general theory, therefore, if you took pure energy and expanded it into atoms with that much space it would blow up into a huge physical structure by comparison, but somehow of a hollow structure. Like pop corn blows up from a small seed.
The idea here is that in the process of materalizing, all the spiritual energy is converted to matter and thus they are no longer in spirit form. When they dematerialize and turn back into pure energy, they are condensed down again to an incredibly small size.
So it's one form or the other form, never both at the same time.
