My Thoughts:
I'd like to think that Jehovah would consider it "more appropriate" to straighten out matters first, BEFORE He would bring about that Great, "Destructive Day".
That way, a fair, impartial, judgment can be rendered for all concerned. It now becomes an "executed judgment" that can be easily understood by both God and man.
In addition, in this way, God maintains His Own Righteousness, beyond question, as the "Judge of Earth" who always "judges righteously", as Abraham noted. -- See Genesis 18:25.
