I think the question is wether you could do it with a clean conscience. Intellectually we no there's no harm, but if you feel guilty because of previous indoctrination, don't do it. If you're totaally convinced it's ok, then go for it.
Personally I love bonfires, we had one every year with posts leaning like a teepee two stories tall. We'd put fireworks in it, douse it with gasoline and watch it blow! The little tanks would come out shootin' and little roosters would come out crowin'. Those were the days!
