Bonfire night in the UK is a celebration of the catholic Guy Fawkes's failure to blow up Parliament. Despite the fact that most of the population wish he'd succeeded, on bonfire night (Nov. 5) an effigy of Guy Fawkes (the "guy") is burned atop the bonfire. Prior to Guy Fawkes or bonfire night kids wheel or carry effigies of "Guy" to people's doors asking for money (a bit like what kids in the US do on Halloween). Generally JWs are not supposed to get involved.
