Your statement that the WT's ownership of equity securities may be easily checked is not quite true.

If one (individual, institution or other legal entity such as a trust) owns an equity security through a "street name" account, as is standard at all major investment firms, there would be no publicly available records of this ownership.

If a court issued a subpeona of all brokerage statements, stock ownership could be determined, but I wouldn't call that and "easy check."
