Yes, that very thing it evident and it is sickening.
Whenever I hear friends discussing such notions I just cannot stand it. I ask them how much time Jesus spent on such notions, which should be an hint for his followers. I ask them whether they think there will be surprises at Armageddon. Most agree that survivors will be surprised at who is judged worthy of survival and who will not be so judged. I ask them if they feel people enjoying conversations about life ending destruction will be there. As you can imagine, at that point they become about as putout with me as I am with them.
What you deplore from that utter display of narcissism is one thing I fight so hard against.
