I agree with you that a doctor or nurse should be able to conscientiously object to performing such procedures. I was faced with this situation a few years ago. I was studying at the time and progressing as expected. I had to determine how I would handle the blood issue if faced with a patient who had a transfusion ordered. I decided that if another person was available to give the blood, I would have them do it. If however,an emergency situation arose and no one else was available, I felt I could not conscientiously impose my beliefs on a person if I knew full well that they wanted and required this treatment. I talked to another RN at the time who was a ministerial servant. His thoughts were along the same lines as mine.
