Two thousand years in the future a document is discovered. To everyone’s amazement it proves to be authentic. The text describes how a division in the congregation of ??ville occurred. One group of zealous members wished to plant trees to decorate their building. The trees would also provide shade and protection from the wind. An opposing group of individuals vehemently say that they feel that trees around the property are not safe and it would take much more effort to keep the grounds trimmed. Each group felt that they had scriptural grounds for their stand. The division eventually was heard by a group of men with oversight and a response was issued.
It states this: Let the congregation not be continually bothered by divisions. It is our decision you to listen to this counsel and plant nothing more than short bushes around the grounds of the building.
Based on this new light, from that time forward, all of the organization’s buildings were only landscaped with short shrubbery according to scripture.
If you can appreciate the point I am making, you can see how easily counsel for a specific incident can become universal doctrine.
