My last post was deleted 20.5 minutes after it appeared on H2O, I am told.
Sic transit gloria mundi &c.

In H2O, I read with some minor distaste a few examples of Greg Stafford
*appearing* - not always with justification - to belittle his
interlocutors' alleged poor writing or textual/analytic skills.

How interesting, then, that I also came across the following:-

I suppose it is possible that you somehow missed my rather salient
qualification, so I will repeat it, highlighting key portions of the
adverbial phrase: "I believe Jehovah has blessed them with significant
resources SO THAT they might accomplish THIS MINISTRY."

Commentary by Prominent Bethelite:-

Greg Staffor(d) follows the words "the adverbial phrase:" by a sentence
which is (therefore) - clearly - not an adverbial phrase.

OK, you say - Stafford must be referring to a part of the sentence. Fair
enough, though I would not have left myself open to such a riposte were I
(heaven forbid) to be in his shoes...

So, which part?

The part which contains (inter alia) the "key portions" he has subjected
to "highlighting", of course - and which does the work of qualification"
(as adverbial phrases are wont to do).

So, the *claimed* adverbial phrase can only be:-

"SO THAT they might accomplish THIS MINISTRY"

without placing any reliance on any (false) requirement for contiguity.

Which is rather unfortunate for Greg Stafford, as the above is an
adverbial CLAUSE and not an adverbial PHRASE - the two are mutually
exclusive.

Always there to assist ;-)

On to another matter.

Greg - was it you posting as apokrisis1@aol.com (no other ID, but twice
referring to Greg Stafford in the first person singular) on
alt.religion.jehovahs-witn and calling ME a liar, very recently too?

Here are details (all easily found on http://www.deja.com/home_ps.shtml
using an author-search):

"The unknown, lying "squirrel""
MID <19991108120603.06953.00001957@ng-ff1.aol.com>

"Further evidence that the "squirrel" is lying about Stafford"
MID <19991109023940.14489.00003132@ng-fm1.aol.com>

"Re: Yo Stafford! Eddicay-Shun! Dissection! Read This!"
MID <19991108234543.02759.00002418@ng-cc1.aol.com>

In fact, there was a whole series of posts from the same source, referring
without proof or justification to many on H2O and Usenet as "liars"...

If it was not you, *you* have one or more bones to pick with the very
insolent apokrisis1@aol.com. Were he my ally, I would seek to dispose of
him as soon as possible (for reasons I soon state) as an embarrassment!

If yes, you are badly confused as to the meaning of "liar" - even
according to the Watchtower's disgraceful definition thereof. Please, do
download "my" "List" (references in my sig) and search for "lie" and
"liar". I guess you already know what you will find.

I told no lies. An opinion not unreasonably formed on a foundation of
INDISPUTABLE FACTS cannot comprise a lie - at worst, it can comprise a
mistake. Whatever any imputed malicious motive might be. Period.

Of course - I made no mistake there, either ;-)

I am considering publishing a critique on your interesting literary
attempt (#2) published by the enigmatic Elihu - in the first instance,
confining my criticism to matters grammatical, lexical and syntactical.
Fair use only, needless to say. EGregious matters will receive
particularly careful attention. Do you have any views about this?
