My dear Lobo,
These references are CORRECT. It is YOU who said something differently. This is your statement:
It was my understanding the NT hours referred always to the period between 6 AM and 6PM. Therefore, 6 AM was the first hour, 7 AM was the second hour, and so forth.
Maybe this will help:
MINE vs YOURS
1st hour - 7:00 a.m. vs 6:00 a.m.
2nd hour - 8:00 a.m. vs 7:00 a.m.
3rd hour - 9:00 a.m. vs 8:00 a.m.
4th hour - 10:00 a.m. vs 9:00 a.m.
5th hour - 11:00 a.m. vs 10:00 a.m.
6th hour - 12 NOON vs 11:00 a.m.
But if you're referring to Mark 15:25 as being the third hour, 9:00 a.m., as I mentioned to you, the actual text doesn't say whether it is the third hour of night or day and I showed you at Acts 23:23 where it refers to the "third hour of the night."
But these Bible commentators are presuming this is 9:00 a.m. because they believe Jesus was executed on Nisan 14th and was impaled the same day that he was arrested. So they are assuming that the "third hour" reference is in the morning at 9:00 a.m. instead of at night at 9:00 p.m.
So, yes, in this case, I am contradicting these scholarly sources who are in error, both on the date, day and time for Jesus' impalement. Jesus was impaled, according to the Bible at 9:00 p.m. on the day of preparation for the passover sabbath of Nisan 21st. So by your reckoning, changing the date at sunset or nightfall, this would be 9:00 p.m. on Nisan 20th. Jesus would die later that afternoon, Nisan 20th, at the "ninth hour" at 3:00 p.m.
So yes, this shows how much the scholars know who are teaching false history. Jesus actually died on Nisan 20th, 33CE, a Thursday. Not Nisan 14th as the "scholars" have decided for themselves to claim is the date of Jesus' death.
But if you're impressed with them. Why don't you explain why it is that Jesus is impaled at 9:00 a.m. and his trial didn't get underway until Noon?
What?
Did they decide he was entitled to an appeal and they took him down off the torture state and brought him back before Pilate for his Noon time trial?
And how long was the trial? How long did they tease Jesus before finally taking him back out to Calvary?
You know he died at 3:00 p.m. If his trial was at Noon and only took an hour before he was led to Calvary, it means Jesus died within less than 2 hours. That means he was only on the torture stake for a very short time.
Also, the other gospels clearly indicate that it GOT DARK at the sixth hour while he was on the torture stake!
So another contradiction.
How can he be on trial at noon and it get dark at noon?
It's impossible. It doesn't work. It doesn't work with the current popular understanding and JW understanding that Jesus was arrested and died on Nisan 14th.
But the Bible doesn't say that. The Bible says he died on "preparation for passover" and that can be either Nisan 14th or Nisan 20th.
Since he had to be in the grave for three days and THREE NIGHTS, he had to die on a Thursday afternoon anyway. Nisan 20th was a Thursday. So that ends it!
The scholars are just WRONG!
But their 9:00 a.m. reference for the "third hour" doesn't mean that this has to be in the morning. This is just a reflection of their misinterpretation of the chronology of Jesus' last days.
So I don't consider this a big mistake, but yes, you do have to ignore the scholars when it comes to their interpretation of Jesus' last days since they have him dying on Nisan 14th and claim the Bible contradicts itself in this regard. But it doesn't, it is just their lack of understanding Jewish culture. That's all.
Cheers,
Bibleman
Now remember, it was YOU who said that the 1st hour began at 6:00 a.m. Not me. I've always said the 1st hour began at 7:00, a.m. or p.m. And that agrees with the assignment of the hours, in general. Though they are wrong about the 9:00 A.M. for Mark 15:25. Executions were held at night, so this was 9:00 p.m.
Write me again if you're not clear on this.
