KC: Excellent point about the police arresting you for something your father did. I do believe there is an important difference here.
Adam and Eve were directly held accountable by God. They did not yet have offspring when they sinned. Once they had children, they had already lost perfection and passed on sin.
It reminds me of my grandfather. He was a multimillionaire. He lost all his money before I was born. As a result, my dad grew up in poverty. Yes, it was his father that made the financial errors, but my dad sufferred as a consequence.
Your point is still good, because it relates to my concern with why God has permitted so much suffering, war, crime, etc. Many innocent people suffer or die as a result. Many receive serious injustices from governments exacting laws that are nearly impossible to keep, or by shear failure to have a balanced system to protect the rights of the accused.
This is one reason now why I accept that God took part in this problem and let his son die for us. And, it is why I accept that faith in Jesus pays for our sins and sinful nature past, present, and future. I do not believe we have to earn our salvation.
It is something I believe a loving God would and should do, that is: to make an arrangement to cancel our debt knowing we could never pay it.
Thank you for your post. It is very thought provoking and should cause a lot of responses.
