I've been into the old books again.
Here is a quote from an 1894 Watch Tower "Extra."
"But watching the results of the circulation of the German Towers, and seeing them to be very meager, I saw that the publication of the German translation of Dawn would be very unprofitable, and so pointed out to Bro. Zech, urging that his income and the needs of his family would not justify him in doing all that his zeal had prompted him to propose." Zion's Watch Tower, VOL. XV, No. 8, EXTRA , A Conspiracy Exposed and Harvest Siftings, p23-24
This was a prelude to Russell renegotiating his agreement with Zech that they would be "share-owners" of M. Dawn, Vol. I, German edition.
The work was not so "unprofitable" that Russell did not want it, if fact, Russell found a way to translate Vol. II and III by the time that this was written. By that time, Zech was working as a typesetter for Russell, and there was no doubt about who owned the rights to the books.
This "EXTRA" is a very interesting little book. It is full of savage attacks by Russell on those whom he refers to as co-conspirators, Bro. Zach included. It deals with Russell's version of the financing of Tower Publishing Co., how the money was spent (including postage stamps), and why Bro. and Sister Russell were as innocent as doves regarding the claims against them.
It also contains this gem:
"No, the truths we present, as Gods mouthpieces,…"
5GJW, who wonders if anyone else has seen this EXTRA
