I work in a hospital owned and operated by Catholic Sisters. Since, in Canada, hospitals are funded by the governemnt, they cannot deny srvices based on religious preferences. They, of course have catholic chapel services available everyday as well as pastoral care, that is primarily RC. They do go out of their way to offer services to other religions and provide in-hospital religious services for non-catholics.
I am really surprised to see that in North America, the catholic church is still so rigid on Birth Control. Having grown up in predominately Roman Catholic Quebec, I can't say I saw this sort of thing (again maybe the governement's control over medical services).
Now that I think about it, the Jewish General Hospital was the only hospital that my sister found that did not try to talk her out of having her son circumcized;-)
