The ironic thing is that you will lose it anyway eventually, only later you will have even more to lose. Your own child may shun you, for example. But I can't fault you for being cautious. You have a right to protect yourself. The key is your spouse, and whether he is rational or not. Not being a servant because he has a child is an excellent idea. The less involved the both of you can be, the better. You can gradually adjust to a different lifestyle, different associations, and it is nobody's business but yours.
