A simple calculation:
Publishers 97/98: 166780
subtract 1% for death ("normal loss"): - 1667
add 3751 baptized in 98/99: + 3751
expected number of pubs. 98/99: = 168864real number of pubs. 98/99: - 164263
MISSING PUBLISHERS: = 4601 (2.7% of 168864)
Just a very rough & quick estimate, but that is quite a lot of disappearing publishers...!
