As a civil society we do respect and allow for diversity. However, society, any society, tolerates diversity up to the point that it defines it not to be in the best interest of the society at large. Hence, secular society recognizes the effects of bigomy and forbids it inspite of it being a strongly held religious belief of the Latter Day Saints.
My question still stands, do you define a family shunning a family member because that member no longer believes in certain doctrins as a "spiritual" act? If so please define.
