I think Purgatory is not a place, but a state of mind. It's what you make it. You can make it a sad place or a happy place.
For instance, I feel like I'm in purgatory every time I log onto H20. But then, when I see all the wonderful posts here from Jan, A.F., Greg, Farkster, and others. It turns into a HAPPY PLACE. A fantasy FUN place of strange ideas and strange dates! Sort of like Alice in Wonderland!
So since the Bible doesn't specifically mention anything about this place, we can make it what want to. The Catholics just weren't all that cheerful and figured they'd make more money if they invented a place like this that others could pay contributions to help people get out and up to heaven. But still, it's all imaginary!
