I think it is people who have a overwhelming dependancy need. They are individuals who have difficulty making decisions or evaluating information, and so they appreciate being told what decision to make and what to believe. They have a desparate need to belong to a select group, to be told that they are one a special few and that they are superior. They are often people who have been rejected, and so the unconditional acceptance, (at least up until they are baptised) is very attractive. Being taught all the Bible "answers", and believing that even if they cannot answer a particular question, they have always got access to the answers, makes them feel superior.
