Okay, I will expend time with you on this issue of Jesus’ answer for a sign. But if at any point you become disinterested please let me know. For reasons unknown to you my time is hard pressed and limited.
I asked:
So what does Jesus’ coming have to do with the temple in Jerusalem being totally destroyed? Keep in mind that that question requires a previous connection apart from Jesus answer.
Your response for that question included much after the fact information. From that I can tell that you did not understand the necessity indicated. Here, I will illustrate.
Your son asks you, "Why did you bang on the car?"
To understand why that question was asked and what motivate it you must examine what occurred prior to the question being asked. Anything happening afterward cannot be associated with what caused the motivation unless it is some type of admission from the questioner.
In the case of Jesus’ followers they asked three questions of Jesus. What motivated those questions? That helps us determine what their curiosities were and thus we can better understand what they were asking.
You have said the only curiosity you see is Jesus’ previous description of the temple’s destruction. Okay, that curiosity works fine for the first thing asked of Jesus, that of "when will this be…?" But, how does that same curiosity work for the second thing asked, that of "what will be the sign of your coming…? The question is, "What does the destruction of the temple have to do with Jesus’ coming?"
I hold that the two have no relevancy toward one another at all. In that case then Jesus’ answer for the one should not be confused with his answer for the other.
I suggest that you think about this issue for awhile. When you think you have something in the way of a response or question then repost. As I am able I will respond and answer.
