Friend,
As you recall my first post was inquiring about who was fleeing from what if the flight was some future event. You indicated you felt that was a one time thing and not of importance now if I remember correctly. ( which lead to my comment of the dual fulfillment) But yes, I'm interested in a discussion of the signs talked about in Matt 24.
In your post you say " keep in mind that the question requires a previous connection apart from Jesus' answer." I don't recall this understanding , please explain why it must. Other than they had only just walked out of the temple what previous connection do you consider necessary?
You state that Jesus was asked three questions and His response answered all three. Actually I agree with you, but it gets trickier to determine how Jesus' response answers the questions of all THREE reporters, because to do this we have to accept the fact that certain questions were never asked. I can add that I do not see a conflict between the three writers.
You asked what does Jesus' coming have to do with the destruction of Jerusalem? I offer one possibility.
In John 3:13 Jesus states that no one has ascended into heaven. In John 14:3 he says "and I go to prepare a place for you. I will come again, and recieve you to myself; that where I am, there you may be also."( He will come and the person goes where he is- confusing , but I'd say it's heaven) At John 10:27,28 jesus says My sheep hear my voice and I know them and they follow me and I give eternal life to them and they shall never perish..... Does this mean whover he was talking to was just going to carry on the same physical life forever because he said they won't perish. Well, at John 11:25 he says ".....he who believes in me shall live even though he dies"- so they cease to live physical life yet do not perish. So following these scriptures thru we have a time when there is no one in heaven yet Jesus told those he talked to they may go to heaven. The arrival of the first person in heaven would have to be after the death of Jesus. When Jesus started judging people and accepting them into heaven is the guess. At the end of the destruction of Jerusalem is as good a guess as any as I see it.
I hope this answered the questions in your post. I did read over your link again, but I thought I'd sort this out first before we go further, OK with you?
