Here is a quote from a '94 Watch Tower about claiming to be unpaid while working for the Org.
"He states that the spent hundreds of dollars and traveled about without salary, circulating pamphlets at camp-meetings, etc. It is true that the tract fund paid him no stated salary, but the way in which he states the matter is calculated to give a false impression. The fact is, that money was furnished him for all his expenses; and so far as we have any knowledge, he used it for all his expenses." Vol. XV, No. 8, p19
So, here it is in a '94 Watch Tower that claiming to draw no salary while being compensated for expenses is "calculated to give a false impression." Is that a new enough reference for all of you out there that howl when someone goes back to the '70s? What kind of a low life would try to give someone a false impression?
