I know someone who asked her elders why they could use some fractions and not others. The explanation given was that "just like somebody might not be allowed to eat chocolate cake but they can eat the eggs or the sugar."
The person related that to me when I asked her. I just looked at her. She had a smile on her face and thought the explanation was brilliant. I asked her, "And you bought this?"
